Emma Roberts Cast As Lena For Delirium TV Series

Right after being caught buying Delirium, the news came out that Emma Roberts has been cast as Lena for the FOX TV adaptation of Delirium.

Entertainment Weekly reported the news just this morning:

Emma Roberts is returning to TV as the star of Fox’s  Delirium.

The Nancy Drew and Scream 4 actress has been cast in the lead role in Fox’s pilot based on the bestselling young adult novels by Lauren Oliver.

The books take place in an alternative present-day Maine when civilization has been partly destroyed by war and a totalitarian government teaches that love is literally a disease (commonly called the delirium). There’s a surgical cure for love that’s mandatory for citizens 18 and older. The story follows 17-year-old Lena (Roberts) who is eagerly awaiting her turn to get the cure when she falls in love with an Invalid (a person who hasn’t taken the cure that lives in the wilderness). Not surprisingly, the story has draw some comparisons to The Hunger Games and Twilight.

Roberts previously starred in the Nickelodeon series Unfabulous then went onto big-screen roles including the upcoming Empire State and We’re the Millers. Karyn Usher (Prison Break) wrote the pilot and is an executive producer alongside Peter Chernin, Katherine Pope, Paula Mazur and Mitchell Kaplan on the 20th Century Fox TV project.

This casting news is something I don’t think any fan saw coming.

The 13 Heroines Who’ll Make 2013 Kick Ass

VH1 Celebrity recently featured an article of 13 kickass heroines from best selling books who will feature on screens big and small in 2013.

Lauren’s very own Lena features on such list along side Katniss from Hunger Games and Melanie from The Host!

If you take stories like The Hunger Games, The Host and Warm Bodies to heart, you might think we don’t have much to look forward to in the distant post-apocalyptic future. But in the more immediate days ahead, like say, the rest of 2013, there’s a whole lot to be excited for — especially if you like ladies who kick ass, stand up for what they believe in and protect their loved ones at all costs. It’s going to be a great year for heroines in movies, on TV and in books — but not necessarily the easy-to-love/worship kind…

In March, we’ll see the release of Requiem, the conclusion of Lauren Oliver’s Delirium trilogy following Lena, who lives in a society that has decided to surgically eradicate the disease of love (and compassion, and empathy, and all those other good things). And now we’ve learned that Lena could get a new life on the small screen, as Fox has ordered a pilot based on the books.

The full article can be read here to see all the heroines we can expect to see an hear more from in the upcoming year!

The Wilds

How peaceful do the wilds look here? I’d run into these woods with Alex any day!

“It must be nice to be in the Wilds right now,” I blurt out, just for something to say. Alex turns to look at me, and I stammer quickly, “I mean—it must be cooler there. Because of all the trees and shade.”

“It is.” He props himself up on one elbow. For a second Alex doesn’t say anything, but I can feel him watching me. “We could go there,” he says at last. I think he must be joking, so I start to laugh. He stays quiet, though, and when I open my eyes I see his face is totally composed. “We could go if you want to.”

Delirium and Pandemonium Quotes: Speculation for Requiem

Hi there! Are you getting excited for Requiem? Do you love pulling books apart to find foreshadowing and deeper meaning? Well, I’ve got a post for you! Below I have compiled some quotes from Delirium and Pandemonium, courtesy of Goodreads.com. After each quote, I’ve added a bit of my own speculation about what the quote could mean. Please add your thoughts and arguments in the comments!

Case for Lena and Julian

“You came from different starts and you’ll come to different ends.” -Delirium, Lauren Oliver
Since Lena said this in Delirium, which focused on her relationship with Alex, you could interpret this as a hint that Lena and Alex will go their separate ways at the end.

“The past is nothing but a weight. It will build inside of you like a stone.” -Delirium, Lauren Oliver
If Lena and Alex’s history is nothing but a weight, is that really something she wants to resurrect? Maybe being with Julian would be easier on her heart.

“That’s when you really lose people, you know. When the pain passes.” -Delirium, Lauren Oliver
Has Lena already lost Alex, since, believing Alex is dead, she started to love Julian?

“I need him to know that I came for him. I need him to know that somehow, at some point in the tunnels, I began to love him.” -Pandemonium, Lauren Oliver
There is no denying that Lena loves Julian strongly. What we’ll find out in Requiem is which love is stronger: her love for Alex or her love for Julian.
